How to add it

Anyone can put the calculator on their site for free. There's no signup.

  1. Pick a calculator: penalty and interest, payment plan, pay now or later, estimated tax penalty, or S corp and partnership.
  2. Pick the colors: light, dark, or matching each visitor's own setting.
  3. Copy the code and paste it into your page's HTML, where you want the calculator to appear.

Not sure which one fits? You can try each one on the site first: penalty and interest, payment plan, pay now or later, estimated tax penalty, and S corp and partnership. The preview above also changes as you pick, so you can see what your visitors will get.

What the code includes

The code is an iframe, which shows the calculator inside your page. It also puts a one-line credit link to whatsmypenalty.com under the calculator.

An optional small script makes the frame grow and shrink to fit the results. Without it, the frame has a fixed height of 1,150 pixels. To leave the script out, uncheck the "grow and shrink" box above before you copy the code.

The same engine as the main site

The calculator on your page is the same one that runs on whatsmypenalty.com. It uses the official IRS interest rates and penny-exact math. It covers late filing, late payment, payment plans, estimated tax, and accuracy penalties.

Rates are updated every quarter on the site. So the embedded calculator stays current without you doing anything.

Private for your visitors

Everything runs in your visitor's browser. The numbers they type aren't sent to whatsmypenalty.com or anyone else. Links inside the calculator open in a new tab, so visitors stay on your page.

The site counts page views with GoatCounter, a cookie-free analytics service. That includes the embedded calculator. The privacy policy has the details.

Works on phones

The layout adapts to the width of the space you give it, so it works on phones too. Up to 760 pixels wide is a good size.

Who it's for

It's a good fit for tax preparers and accountants, bookkeepers, financial bloggers, credit counselors, and community tax help sites. Your clients or readers can check the numbers right on your page.
